Vaper’s Tongue: What Is It? How Do I Get Rid of It?
Since you started vaping, have you ever experienced a sensation when you are not able to taste the flavour of the e-juice that you are vaping? Or worse, you are not able to taste anything at all and your tongue feels numb?
What Causes the Vaper’s Tongue?
Did you know that even quitting smoking can cause vaper’s tongue? Smokers probably already know that smoking reduces their sense of taste. So, when they stop smoking, their taste buds get rejuvenated. This will be followed by an onslaught of all kinds of intense flavours, whether you are vaping, eating, or drinking something. This might overwhelm them to go numb for a few days, resulting in vaper’s tongue.
Then there is dehydration. The solutions in e-liquids absorb moisture. So, when you vape continuously without rehydrating yourself, a thin film might form on your tongue which prevents the flavours from coming in contact with the taste buds below.
There are other more common causes like allergies or cold. As you know, cold can make you pretty much insensitive to any kind of taste or smell. So, when you are dealing with a case of cold or allergies, be ready to experience the vaper’s tongue.
What’s more, even using the same flavour one too many times can cause your taste buds to become insensitive to the flavour. Finally, you might experience vaper’s tongue for absolutely no reason at all. Your taste buds simply decided that it is a good day to act up. Let them stabilize by themselves. Vaper’s tongue is harmless, anyway.
Is There Anything I Can Do About Vaper’s Tongue?
It is pretty easy to get rid of the vaper’s tongue once you figure out the reason for it. For instance, if you have grown insensitive to a particular flavour, then refresh your taste buds by giving them a taste of a variety of flavours. Try a different set of flavours for a couple of days. Once your taste buds get used to your new flavour, they will regain their sensitivity. Similarly, if you got the vaper’s tongue on account of dehydration, then all you need to do is drink lots of water and fluids.
There is a common technique followed by wine tasters and perfume experts, when they get insensitive to different smells and flavours. They shock their senses with a whiff of some strong coffee. Their taste buds reset and are back to their sensitive best.
Some more techniques include brushing your teeth and tongue, or giving your mouth a good rinse to clean away any film or layer that has formed around your taste buds.
If nothing works, just take a break. Vaper’s tongue is the sign that you have been vaping too much. So, give your taste buds some rest. They will be back to their sensitive self in no time at all.
